A 12 MONTH OPHTHALMOLOGY SPECIALTY INTERNSHIP AT LONG ISLAND VETERINARY SPECIALISTS (JULY 2025 TO JULY 2026)

We are NY State’s largest private practice referral center. Check us out at: www.livs.org

Currently renovating our facility to over 55,000 ft2

Extremely busy caseload. Excellent surgical exposure as well as case management. We perform referral surgeries for retinal re-attachment, glaucoma therapy and sulcus IOL placements. We have an excellent track record in previous intern placement to residency positions. Please send CV (including your class rank in veterinary school), a photograph, two letters of recommendation, and a letter of intent to Dr. John Sapienza at jsapeye@gmail.com

The intern will have primary case duties and will scrub in on all surgeries.  The intern is greatly encouraged and highly supported to present at a national veterinary ophthalmology meeting as well as local ophthalmology society meetings. We have regular in- house educational presentations and general scientific rounds. Equine consultations and zoo visits are scheduled as needed. The intern will be NOT required to do any general emergency coverage.

You must be eligible for licensure in New York State and have already completed a general internship in small animal medicine and surgery prior to the start of this ophthalmology internship. Please refer to the New York State Veterinary Medical Licensing Board for requirements.

Application deadline is January 5th, but early admission is encouraged to allow for interviews (via Zoom or in person) to be scheduled. A decision will be made after the ophthalmology residency match program results are reported.
